Starting a social enterprise shifted my focus from the margins of cultural production to the center of public policy, local economies and the future of our cities. My art practice now centers around public projects to reinvent civic, private and public spheres as collaborative partners in social innovation and entrepreneurship. I use humor and technology in the service of wonder in my art to re-engage citizens with the city as a platform, and a dynamic reflection of social, economic, and historical forces; our dreams, hopes and deepest desires.
My portfolio shows past work which employs research, participation, performance, collaboration. Themes of preparedness and paranoia, extension and prosthesis (erotic, spiritual, ecological) are explored through the lens of our present urban condition.
Resiliancy I Catastrophile I Apocal-optimist I
Survive This! explors my own catstrophile complex with-in the context of resiliency. I have curated these functional emergency kit with over 40 recommended items researched by the Preparedness Division. Most items are common sense, multi-purpose, and affordable.
This life-use product charts the aesthetics of survivalist gear on a bell curve defined by the opposite extremes of the Do-It-Yourself “woodsy isolationist” and the ultra militaristic sky-mall executive gadgets. The populist R.E.I day Kits make up the top curve. These Emergency Kits are for the rest of us.
The kits serve as a platform to discuss fears, ideas, practical tips, and resources in a climate of Code-Orange Level Alert Status.
