Anthropocene Mixtape: Owl Edition
A Sonic Exploration of Lost Abundance
During my full moon walk on the shores of Lake Michigan I heard owls for the first time. As 60-90% of Owl populations have declined since 1970, I wondered, what would 90% more owls sound like? What if our urgent stories about climate change were shared as immersive soundscapes expanding the field of Acoustic Ecology? My answer is a sonic reconstruction of this lost abundance, an Anthropocene Mixtape Series to explore imagined futures with a portal to the past.

Listen
Audio file will drop on September 13th for ArtPrize opening weekend!
Listen to a reimagined nocturnal sound-scape with a parliament of shadows representing the lost population of Michigan owls flying overhead. What does darkness teach us about listening? The shadows will give an impression of the 15 owls commonly found in Michigan flying overhead, a visual clue for the lost population of owls and an invitation to pedestrians to engage with the sound file of field recorded owl files arranged in a midnight song. |
