Our signature Vacant to Vibrant and Pop-up to Permanent programs revolutionized the role of popup retail in revitalizing neighborhoods, block by block. With the distinction of the first retail incubator in the US, we worked at the intersection of economic development, retail, and creative placemaking to invest in entrepreneurs to create cities we love.
As Co-founder and CEO, Popuphood launched with 6 pop-ups in Old Oakland in 2011 in Oakland CA. As part of the urban prototyping and tactical urbanism movements, we partnered with the City of Oakland, the Downtown Oakland CBD, and Peter Sullivan Associates and in 3 months, we filled 6 empty storefronts with pop-ups and contributed to capital improvements with our unique approach. Our marketing blazed new trails by focusing on the creative entrepreneurs and garnered international press to launch a historic yet forgotten neighborhood as the new hottest independent retail destination in the Bay Area. We served real estate and commercial retail developers throughout the Bay Area and influenced cities across the globe with our programs, tactical services, and community focused marketing approach. We had the distinct honor of Exhibiting in Spontaneous Interventions, and serving as a panelist at the United States Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2012 - Venice, Italy.
